Volunteers with the Durango Railroad Historical Society – plus help from others such as Elise Niederauer, 15, left, daughter of Mark and Gabi Niederauer, and Ringo Racheff, 7, son of Dorothy and Richard Racheff – scrubbed the Emma Sweeny at Santa Rita Park as part of its continuing restoration, said member and Elise’s grandfather George Niederauer. “It’s probably got 25 years of dirt and grime on it,” he said. George Niederauer said the Emma Sweeny is a replica of the 1899 steam locomotive, the Rio Grande Southern #20, which was dressed up to look like an 1870s locomotive for the 1950 movie “A Ticket to Tomahawk,” which was shot in the area.
