The pitching mound in Oakland, Calif., is the site of a conference for Texas starter Yu Darvish, pitching coach Mike Maddux and catcher Mike Napoli. According to baseball historian John Thorn, the first mention of the pitching mound in the rules appeared in 1903, when the height was capped at 15 inches. It was reduced to 10 inches after the 1968 season.
