“I say we go for South Fork,” said Len Forkas, center, as he prepares to leave the Durango checkpoint during Race Across America on June 16 at Santa Rita Park. Crew member Bill Vitek, left, greets Len Forkas at the Durango checkpoint for Race Across America at Santa Rita Park. Through his participation in the race, Forkas was hoping to raise $150,000 for Hopecam, which connects sick children with their schools during their convalescence.
Len Forkas started Hopecam after his 9-year-old son had leukemia about 10 years ago. The Hopecam helps children with cancer or other diseases stay connected with their classmates.
