Rain in forecast cause for optimism
Fire & Rescue wins grant

If rain tops the wish list for area fire officials, money is close behind.
That wish has been granted.
Durango Fire & Rescue Authority is one of five rural districts in Colorado to receive grants from the Federal Emergency Management Agency to hire more firefighters. Funds designated for the five districts total $3.8 million; DFRA’s piece of the pie is about $1.27 million.
“This severe wildfire season in Colorado has underlined the need for fire departments and districts to have the manpower necessary to protect lives and property, Sen. Mark Udall said in a news release. “These grants will help ensure that our Colorado communities are better prepared.”
Other FEMA grant recipients are fire protection districts in Cortez, Centennial, Golden and Larkspur.
