Painter to give watercolor workshop
Painter Ann Smith will give a watercolor workshop from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Aug. 10 and 11 at Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 419 San Juan Drive.
This workshop is designed for artists of all levels who have some experience in watercolor. Classes will be held indoors. You may attend one or both sessions. Each session costs $75 in advance.
Students are encouraged to bring up to three of their paintings for individual discussion. The paintings may be finished or unfinished, framed or not, award winners or problem children. (Please do not bring paintings done in another teachers workshop.)

Submissions open for members exhibit
The Durango Arts Center announces a call to artists for this years members exhibit, Water in the West, which will be held Aug. 10 through Sept. 15. All Arts Center members are invited to enter one piece of artwork in any medium except video in this themed, nonjuried exhibit.
There is no entry fee. Artists may opt to donate 10 percent of their proceeds to Engineers without Borders.

New season set for thespian troupe
Season tickets are on sale for the 2012-2013 season of Imaginary Friends, a collaboration of Merely Players and the Durango Performing Arts Company. The season will open July 26 with Merely Players Brilliant Traces at the Back Space Theatre.
In October, the Durango Performing Arts Company will present the musical Sleepy Hollow. The November show will be Merely Players production of Mary Zimmermans Tony-award winning Metamorphoses in the swimming pool at Mountain Shadows Inn.
In March, Merely Players and the Durango Arts Center will present a contemporary drama yet to be determined.
The season will conclude in May with Merely Players and DPACs joint production of Disneys The Little Mermaid on the Diane Panelli Stage at the Durango Arts Center.

Firefighters can see Beehive for free
The Durango Arts Center is offering all firefighters and a guest to a performance of Beehive, the 60s Musical for free. The invitation is good for any performance night (8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays through Sept. 1).

Durango Indie Authors to meet Wednesday
The Durango Indie Authors will meet from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Wednesday at Pine River Valley Bank, 1701 Main Ave. This is an open discussion session. Guests are welcome.

Lost Dog party to benefit lost dogs
The Lost Dog Bar & Lounge, 1150 Main Ave., will host Annies Orphans sixth annual Fundraising Dinner and Silent Auction at 5 p.m. Saturday.
Admission of $10 includes a barbecue dinner and a first glass of beer or wine. Additional drink tickets and desserts will be available for purchase, and live music will be provided by The Assortment.
Annies Orphans is a nonprofit, no-kill dog shelter and adoption service.
