Lassoing a good time at camp

Seven-year-old Katie Edwards tries her luck roping during Cowboy Camp at the Animas Museum. Volunteer Kathy Szelag cooked barbecued beef and beans, cornbread and peach and apple cobbler for the event. “Three years ago, we started Living History at the museum doing things from quilting, making candles, a Dutch oven cookout and tea in the Joy cabin,” Szelag said. “We are trying to do something twice a year now.” Children got to churn butter, grind coffee and learn about the life of old-time cowboys. Katie is the daughter of Stephanie and Paul Edwards.
Arielle Liakat, right, dishes out food for Les Goldman as he looks at the dishes that volunteer Szelag, center, prepared.
