Barbershoppers to perform in Silverton
The Durango Narrow Gaugers barbershop chorus will take part in the Silverton Barbershop Music Festival.
There will be a free public concert at 7 p.m. Saturday in the Silverton School Gym. The concert will feature the 70-voice Festival Chorus, as well as performances by mens choruses and quartets from Durango, Montrose and Grand Junction. There will be a special guest quartet from the Denver area.

Market to feature more than 40 artists
The Durango Friends of the Arts will hold its inaugural Artists Market from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Edgemont Picnic Grounds.
More than 40 artists are expected to display and sell their work. Food and music will be available.
A portion of each artists sales will benefit the Durango Friends of the Arts Grants Fund. DFA is a nonprofit organization that supports arts education and programming in the community with grants to individuals and organizations.

Painters night out will benefit Arts Center
Cocktails & Creations will host a fundraiser for the Durango Arts Center at 6 p.m. Monday at 858 Main Ave., Suite 102. Durango artist Robin Hood will provide step-by-step instructions in a group painting session, and attendees will create their own work of art to be taken home at the end of the class. Director to conductscreenwriting workshop
Writer/director Sydney Sidner will present a special two-day Introduction to Narrative Screenwriting Workshop at the Durango Arts Center from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday. This intensive workshop is for anyone interested in learning to write a character- or plot-driven story for the big screen. Students will arrive having written a five-sentence story that describes a character on a mission, who encounters an obstacle. That story, or another of the students choosing, will be used in exercises that explore outlining, creating plot and structure, defining characters through actions, evaluating scene structure and sharpening dialogue. In each class, students will share the work as basic tenets of screenwriting.
