New drug helps Colorado Stage 4 lung cancer patient thrive – for a while
Two years ago, Coloradan Andy Bonnett was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer. Now tumor-free, because of Crizotinib, a new drug, he recently began surfing.
Dr. Ross Camidge, of the University of Colorado Hospital, endorses a type of strategy of “personalized medicine” for cancer treatment.
Crizotinib, which costs $115,000 a year, starves the type of lung cancer that Andy Bonnett has. There are signs, however, that the cancer is mutating.
