I just read with interest the story regarding a wolverine sighting near Denver (Herald, June 19). It stated that it was the first wolverine in Colorado since 1919.
My husband and I spotted two different wolverines while hiking north of Silverton three summers ago. The sightings were a few weeks apart.
One was seen on the ridge above Clear Lake. We were with our daughters and sons-in-law on the trail that goes to the ridge overlooking the lake, and we came within a few yards of it.
The second was sighted on the trail to Hope Lake. We were in the tundra not far from the lake when we came upon it. It was farther away than the first, but we are certain it was a wolverine, as we watched it for some time with our binoculars.
The coloring was a little different on each one, so we feel sure it was two different animals.
