Van Garderen first to Crest Stage 2 climb up Mount Butte

Tejay van Garderen of Boulder won Stage 2 from Montrose to Mount Crested Butte on Tuesday at the USA Pro Cycling Challenge. He took the yellow leader’s jersey from Tyler Farrar, then cautioned this year’s race “is certainly not over.”
For the second consecutive day, Fort Lewis College alumnus Tom Danielson won the King of the Mountain jersey. The Garmin-Sharp-Barracuda rider finished sixth Tuesday in Stage 2 and is 11th overall, 12 seconds off the lead.
The pro teams set up shop in Crested Butte beneath the shadow of Mount Crested Butte, the ski resort finish line of Stage 2 of the USA Pro Cycling Challenge.
