Homes for Heroes partners with city
The city of Durango will again host the hot rod and motorcycle parade Sept. 2 in conjunction with the motorcycle rally.
Everyone is invited to support Building Homes for Heroes by attending the Veterans Benefit Burrito Breakfast served under the tent in the citys Transit Center (Eighth Street and Camino del Rio) parking lot starting at 8 a.m. The cost is $10.
A veterans dedication ceremony will follow at 10:30 a.m. including a blessing of the bikes. Classic cars and hot rods will be on display in the First National Bank parking lot. The Main Avenue parade will start at 11 a.m. sharp with the hot rods followed by the motorcycles.
The event is organized by the city of Durango and supported by sponsorships from Durango Party Rental and Durango Harley Davidson.

Public employees group has membership drive
All state employees and all state retirees are invited to join the State and Local Chapter of the Colorado Schools and Public Employees Retirement Association during its membership drive. CSPERA is the state organization. The local group, LPSPERA, is the La Plata Schools and Public Employees Retirement Association.
The local groups mission is to educate members and the local community about its economic impact on the community and the state. Current members are reminded to join again before Sept. 30.
