Garmin lifts Vande Velde to victory

Christian Vande Velde came from behind in the final 9.5-mile individual time trial on the streets of downtown Denver on Sunday afternoon to win the overall title. “The team did the heavy lifting for me,” Vande Velde said after collecting his first major victory in five years. “The team took all the pressure off my shoulders.”
From Durango to Denver, the state’s capital hosted the 2012 USA Pro Cycling Challenge’s final stage Sunday, an individual time trial that started and finished in Denver’s Civic Center Park. Taylor Phinney won the stage, and Christian Vande Velde won the race.
