Labor Day rallies highlight new biker culture

The number of women riding motorcycles has surged in recent years.
Heather Hormell has been riding motorcycles most of her life. These days Heather rides a 2008 Suzuki GSX-R600. “Growing up, my parents were big motorcycle enthusiasts,” she said.
Michael Kunz, who said his love of motorcycles began as a teenager, works at Cole’s Chop Shop at 1231 Colorado Highway 172. “We were riding dirt bikes out in the cornfields,” he said.
“I’ve always had a thing for motorcycles for as long as I can remember,” said Alyas Maez, who works at Cole’s Chop Shop at 1231 Colorado Highway 172. The shop does custom bike builds, restoration of vintage bikes, engine-rebuilding, machining and performance enhancement.
Izzy Tucson said he has been riding motorcycles for 20 years. “Being on a motorcycle gives me a sense of freedom and time to discover myself and be with a higher power,” Tucson said.
