Skyhawks dominate the Squawker

First, No. 1 FLC wins its short track; Next up: Worlds
Lauren Catlin of Fort Lewis College chased the wheel of Rebecca Gross from the University of Denver during Saturday’s short track race at the Squawker Mountain Bike Classic. Gross is a former Durango resident, and she felt right at home with a victory to Catlin’s runner-up. “It’s good to be back,” Gross said.
The Skyhawks’ Rotem Ishay worked his way through dust and traffic to win Saturday’s short track race on the Factory Trails at Fort Lewis College. “My advantage is that I have so many years racing on this course,” Ishay said.
Chad Cheeney (background, left) watches Fort Lewis cyclists Payson McElveen and Ryan Standish ride the bumps of his short track course Saturday at FLC. “(Chad) Cheeney is phenomenal at making courses. This definitely had his signature to it,” said Rebecca Gross, the women’s winner.
Grady James of Fort Lewis College comes off his saddle to attack Saturday’s short track course on the Factory Trails at Fort Lewis College. The dual slalom was Saturday at Chapman Hill, and the cross country races will cap this weekend’s Squawker Mountain Bike Classic in Durango.
