Thanks to Gai Cleaveland's letter (Herald, June 28), I have been reminded there is a worse situation that could threaten my home besides the establishment of a gas well, and that would be to have a stereotyping, condescending person be the neighbor next door.
I presume his rant stems from recent actions taken by Homeowners for Responsible Drilling to put to question a deletion that occurred in La Plata County's regulations that removes protection for properties 10 acres or less from having a gas well established. We stand in waiting for a response from the county commissioners for a date to have public discussion for this.
For those people who expect an anti-drilling agenda during these discussions, don't waste the energy to attend. You will be disappointed. This community is doomed to struggle with gas development if empty-headed rhetoric fills the air that pollutes thoughtful discussion.
For those residents who choose to be responsible property owners, this regulation review will be an opportunity for you to understand the consequence you face for owning small parcels in La Plata County's gas patch. We stand in wait for a meeting date, so visit www.hfrdlpc.com to be updated.
