This week I saw the future of golf, and I must say, its in good grips.
High school golf teams descended on both Hillcrest Golf Club and Dalton Ranch Golf Club for invitational play, and watching these young golfers on the driving range brought me back to when I first picked up a set of clubs.
When I was in high school, we did not have a golf program or a competitive team. You learned the game by just playing, making mistakes and being determined to correct those errors.
I still have my Arnold Palmer golf book and a library of beta-format video tapes on swing technique. Perhaps the latter will find its way to a flea market near you.
I do not know what pro golfers our high school hopefuls try to emulate. I can speculate, though, as there are several new faces on the tour to look up to.
For me, the generational gap shines on Lee Trevino, Jack Nicklaus, Arnold and Ben Crenshaw. Not bad company!
Whatever mental guise you use when approaching a shot, work it for all its worth. It might bring you that miracle shot.
Good luck, future golfers.
