Quirky, gritty and hip, Durango’s alleys ain’t no Main

Doug Boykin, owner of Incognito Hair Salon, pauses outside the doorway of his business in the alley east of Main Avenue between Seventh and Eighth Streets in downtown Durango. Boykin called a decision by the Local Licensing Board to allow a medical marijuana dispensary to open next to Incognito after blocking one from relocating to Main Avenue “kind of silly.”
Andy Taylor, a Fort Lewis College student pauses in the doorway of his rental home in the alley off East Fourth Avenue. Taylor says it’s a common route for homeless people making their way from the skate park to the woods below FLC where they sleep at night.
