Demons make their pitch

Vidunas throws DHS softball back into the playoff picture
Durango catcher Mercy Lashway had two hits and contributed to a “concerted” Demons’ defensive effort in a 7-2 win Tuesday against Basalt. “I think that was the best defense we’ve played all season,” Lashway’s battery mate Lexy Vidunas said.
Durango pitcher Lexy Vidunas worked her way out of fifth- and sixth-inning jams with a handful of strikeouts and some fielding help from teammates Mackenzie Sill and Sidney Corbin.
Mackenzie Sill’s biggest contribution in Durango’s win Tuesday came not necessarily with her glove but at the plate; she had four RBIs for the Demons, including a two-RBI triple in the sixth that cemented a 7-2 victory over Basalt.
Mikayla Jeffryes added one of Durango’s 12 hits in a 7-2 win over Basalt on Tuesday.
Mikayla Jeffryes reached first on a bunt in the second inning – the only Durango hit that inning. Teammate Lexy Vidunas said the Demons need to do a better job of stringing their hits together. “We got good hits, just not together,” she said.
Mikayla Jeffryes and the rest of the Durango outfield made some difficult running and lunging plays throughout Tuesday. “I think we did well in the field,” teammate Mackenzie Sill said.
