Eva-Lou Edwards continued her stellar season, while Trevor Gabbard ran well on the boys side for the Bayfield High School cross country programs Saturday at the Salida Invitational.
Edwards won her third meet this season, winning by 2 minutes, 3 seconds with a time of 19:13 in the 5-kilometer race, and the BHS girls finished third overall.
Salida won with 22 points, while The Classical Academy had 37 and Bayfield 39 in a six-team field in Salida.
She just got out there and felt comfortable, looked comfortable, BHS head coach Pat Vaughn said of Edwards. She just needed to go at her own pace. It was a solo effort, believe me.
The rest of the BHS girls:
7. Aubree Lorenzen, 22:11.
9. Nicole Cyr, 22:26.
24. Danielle Miller, 24:09.
28. Lexa Fleming, 24:31.
33. Jessica Cusick, 25:11.
34. Maggie Zink, 25:20.
Hopefully we can have one of those four step up and kind of narrow the gap between our third and fourth runners, and I trust that we will, Vaughn said.
Gabbard finished second for Bayfield on the boys side, finishing in 17:41, while defending state runner-up Connor Wilburn from The Classical Academy won the race in 17:26.
The BHS boys finished fifth out of eight teams without Luke and Joey Webb, who missed the meet for personal reasons. Salida took home the team title at its home meet with 31 points.
Connor was runner-up at state last year, so Trevor had a pretty good run there, Vaughn said.
The rest of the BHS boys:
30. John Fisher, 20:11.
34. Caleb Sepa, 20:23.
38. Jonathan Rudolph, 20:46.
39. Joe Hetrick, 20:46.
Bayfield will run at the Anna Banana Invitational in Grand Junction next week, while its junior varsity and middle school squad will run at the Chicken Creek Invitational in Mancos.
