The Bayfield High School volleyball team extended its record to 12-1 overall and 3-0 in the Intermountain League with a 3-0 victory at Centauri on Thursday night.
The Wolverines won 25-11, 25-19, 25-18.
Kirstie (Hillyer) had another great night, Bayfield head coach Kelley Rifilato said. Shes really come into her own the last couple weeks. Shes hitting the ball hard, shes hitting it straight down, and her serve has been great.
Hillyer, a 6-5 sophomore, had 13 kills on 17 attacks with only one hitting error, Rifilato said. She also had three blocks and two aces.
Suzie Rhodes, also a sophomore, had 31 assists as she spread the attack.
Senior captain Jen Phelps had 11 kills and only two errors. She also had two blocks.
Centauri was trying to hit around our block, Rifilato said of the towering Bayfield front line. We were able to pick up the ball in the back row.
Rifilato said she was pleased that everyone contributed to the road victory Thursday in spite of illness still gripping the Wolverines.
We have a ton of people contributing ... not just one or two, Rifilato said.
As a team, the Wolverines still had 11 blocks in spite of Centauris tip tactics.
Centauri dropped to 5-7 overall, 1-2 in the IML.
Bayfield is ranked third in Class 3A in the latest coloradopreps.com volleyball poll.
