Thank you to my many wonderful friends in Southwest Colorado.
For the last 24½ years I have been honored to direct the Southwest Safehouse, Durango Community Shelter and the Volunteers of America Thrift Store. Over that time, we have served literally tens of thousands of individuals and families, helping them to move on to jobs, housing and happiness in their lives. That work couldn't have happened without the caring support of our business, individual, church and government supporters.
That support needs to continue as our region has ongoing challenges of domestic violence, homelessness and other human maladies.
I retire knowing the Volunteers of America statewide organization has a strong commitment to serve Southwest Colorado. I leave with local leadership in the able hands of Sarada Leavenworth and a committed local advisory council.
My retirement has been acknowledged by a wonderful party so many of you attended and a Durango Herald editorial for which I am most grateful.
Suzanne and I will continue to make Durango our home and be active in the volunteerism for which this wonderful community is so well known.
