Bradley’s dream come true is ‘best day of my life’

Bubba Watson and the United States blasted out of the sand and into a Day 1 Ryder Cup lead 5-3 over Europe on Friday at Medinah Country Club in Medinah, Ill. “There’s a long way to go in this tournament,” Europe’s Justin Rose said. “There’s ebbs and flows. Obviously, there’s momentum for the U.S. team right now, but that could all swing back in our favor (Saturday).”
Keegan Bradley made Friday at the Ryder Cup feel like the best day of his life, and it wasn’t too shabby for the rest of the Americans; they lead Europe 5-3 after Day 1 of the Ryder Cup. “It could be the best day of my life,” the American rookie said.
Nicolas Colsaerts, the 29-year-old rookie from Belgium, helped Europe avoid getting shut out in afternoon fourballs by single-handedly taking down Tiger Woods and Steve Stricker. Colsaerts made eight birdies and an eagle – a 10-under 62 if he was keeping score on his own.

Next: Four more matches of alternate shot this morning, followed by four better-ball matches in the afternoon.

Tiger: Sitting down in the morning for the first time in any Ryder Cup he’s played in. His benching came after he and Steve Stricker lost both their matches to the Europeans.

Key statistic: Nicolas Colsaerts of Belgium made eight birdies and an eagle in his afternoon match, carrying him and Lee Westwood to a win over Woods and Stricker.

Noteworthy: For the first time in nine Ryder Cups, Phil Mickelson won both his opening matches. He and Keegan Bradley beat Sergio Garcia and Luke Donald in alternate shot and Rory McIlroy and Graeme McDowell in better ball.

Quoteworthy: “We just don’t want guys to be worn out. We need Tiger and Steve in the afternoon. We need Tiger and Steve on Sunday,” U.S. captain Davis Love III said on benching Woods and Stricker.
