Another race, another win for Bayfields Eva-Lou Edwards.
Make that another big win.
Edwards won the annual Anna Banana 5K cross country race in Grand Junction on Saturday, defeating a huge field featuring runners from all school classifications.
Eva-Lou, as she has done all year, obliterated the field, and this was a quality field, Bayfield cross country coach Pat Vaughn said.
She won by more than 50 seconds on the flat and fast course in the Connected Lakes area of the James M. Robb Colorado River State Park.
Edwards covered the 5 kilometers in 17 minutes, 41 seconds.
It was really a great race for Eva-Lou, Vaughn said.
She led the BHS girls to a 10th-place team finish.
Also running for BHS:
Aubree Lorenzen, 38th, 21:13.
Danielle Miller, 72nd, 22:40.
Jessica Cusick, 83rd, 23:05.
Lexa Fleming, 85th, 23:17.
Ciara Enns, 91st, 23:44.
Maggie Zink, 92nd, 23:48.
The shorthanded BHS boys finished 11th in a field of 23 full teams. The Wolverines fielded only five runners, with sophomore Trevor Gabbard leading the way in 14th place and a 17:03.
Teammate Luke Webb was 21st (17:10). Joey Webb was 72st (18:22). Kaleb Sapa finished 77th (18:27). Jonathan Rudolph was 100th for the Wolverines.
(Sapa) had a big breakthrough, Vaughn said.
With only five guys, that was a pretty good run for us, Vaughn said.
The Wolverines enjoyed the competition at the large meet in Grand Junction, Vaughn said. The meet is hosted by Fruita Monument High School and is named in honor of former Fruita Monument runner Anna Janowitz, popularly known as Anna Banana.
Grand Junction won the boys division, with Eagle Valley second.
Greeley West won the girls division, with Battle Mountain (Vail) second.
