FLC: History in the making

Skyhawks’ infamy includes 2 losses and a first for the Mavericks
Johannes Sander (11), Aaron Kloer (5) and the Fort Lewis College men’s soccer side put a couple of heads on the ball but couldn’t get enough heads in the game. They lost to Blake Carlson (21), Skylar Roy (3) and Colorado Mesa 2-0 at Dirks Field on Wednesday, the Mavericks’ first-ever win against FLC.
Artur Piperkov and the Fort Lewis midfield took control of ball possession in Half 2, but they struggled to create scoring opportunities in the Colorado Mesa defensive third, tallying just one shot on goal.
Kosta Korditos and the Fort Lewis men’s attack couldn’t find many gaps in Oliver Querin’s Colorado Mesa’s defense. “We just need to get better at creating those final chances,” FLC head coach Oige Kennedy said.
FLC’s Trevor Gibbons said his team played too much as individuals and not enough as a “family” in their 2-0 loss to Colorado Mesa. “The way we play, you all have to be 100-percent playing ... 100-percent focused,” Gibbons said.
Alberto Capdepon had on of FLC’s best chances at a goal against Patrick Wall and Colorado Mesa on Wednesday with a long blast that sailed just wide of the top right goal corner in the first half.
