American Quarter Horse exhibitor Nicole Mitchell of Durango will compete in the 2009 Ford American Quarter Horse Youth Association World Championship Show in Oklahoma City on July 31-Aug. 8.
Mitchell will compete with her American Quarter Horse "Scooby," a 2-year-old sorrel gelding.
She will compete with 2,000 youths, ages 19 and under, from the United States and Canada.
She's entered in the halter geldings division for 2-year-olds.
Mitchell, the 19-year-old daughter of Bill and Sandi Mitchell of Durango, is a sophomore at Fort Lewis College.
The Ford AQHYA World Championship Show is an invitational event with 33 world championship titles on the line.
Exhibitors must have a preset number of qualifying points at American Quarter Horse Association-approved shows from May of 2008 to April of 2009.
In addition to qualifying for the world championship show, Mitchell also is leading the state of Colorado in the Justin Rookie of the Year Award competition.
She's also the leader in the Rocky Mountain Quarter Horse Association high point rankings for 2-year-old geldings.
