U.S. Anti-Doping Agency finally delivers the results Armstrong was (or wasn’t) looking for
Seven-time Tour de France champion and American cycling legend Lance Armstrong wanted evidence and names, and the Unites States Anti-Doping Agency delivered. The USADA found 11 professional cyclists, some former teammates, to step forward and testify against Armstrong, and the USADA report released Wednesday provided plenty of damning details of his and his team’s rampant drug use.
For their cooperation, cyclists’ suspensions reduced from 2 years to 6 months

COLORADO SPRINGS – Five of Lance Armstrong’s teammates accepted six-month doping suspensions, reduced because they provided evidence that helped the United States Anti-Doping Agency make the case to strip Armstrong of his seven Tour de France titles.

George Hincapie, Tom Danielson, Levi Leipheimer, Christian Vande Velde and David Zabriskie all would have received at least two-year sanctions had they not helped USADA with its case.

As part of their deals, all agreed not to participate in the Olympics this year. In June, all but Danielson, a Fort Lewis College alumnus, announced they were withdrawing themselves from Olympic consideration, but they did not give an explanation.

All the suspensions will run through next February.

Hincapie said he’s retiring at the end of 2012.

Also on Thursday, Leipheimer’s team provisionally suspended the rider while it reviews the USADA report.
