Meat producer Tyson to audit treatment of animals

Tyson Foods Inc., the nation’s largest meat company, says it’s launching an animal treatment audit of suppliers’ farms. Thus far, Tyson has resisted pressure from animal welfare activists to move away from cramped cages for pregnant pigs, even as companies including McDonald’s, Burger King and Safeway have pledged to do so.
