The long, brutal road trip is over. Time to head back to familiar ground.
The Fort Lewis College volleyball team fell to No. 17 Regis 25-18, 25-20, 25-19 on Saturday to end a three-game road swing in three days through the best the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference East Division has to offer.
Its ridiculous, FLC head coach Shelly Aaland said somewhat jokingly. I mean, Im exhausted. I dont know how the girls are doing.
Kristin Stephan paced FLC (9-12, 5-8 RMAC) with seven kills, and Jenna Kinzer had 10 digs. Hannah Starbuck added nine digs and two blocks, and Aaland praised the change of pace Audrey Guiberson provided in the front row.
The biggest killer Saturday, and the entire weekend, was the speed of the opposing attack. Aaland said it was a struggle to keep up in terms of setting up the D.
When you look at it from our side, were doing a lot of good things, but we just cant stop the speed, Aaland said.
Still, the head coach said she was pleased with some of the progress made this weekend and is hopeful that progress will carry over when her squad returns to RMAC West play, starting Friday at home against Adams State.
So were glad to be done with the East and to go back to the West with teams we know a little bit better so we can put the focus back on that, Aaland said.
