The Durango Police Department, Colorado State Patrol, Durango Fire & Rescue Authority, Mothers Against Drunk Drivers and the Injury Prevention Coalition will conduct a sobriety checkpoint today within or near the city of Durango.
The purpose of the checkpoint is to encourage the motoring public not to drink and drive.
If a driver is suspected of being intoxicated, an investigation will be conducted to determine if he or she can safely operate the vehicle.
This also is an opportunity to educate the motoring public in other safety issues such as wearing seat belts, proper child safety seat usage and distracted driving.
During the checkpoint, certified child safety seat inspectors will be on hand to inspect child safety seats upon request.
