No. 3 Bayfield finishes its 5th unbeaten IML season
Senior Kayla D. McCoy used a one-arm dig to help the Wolverines win their 17th match of the season Thursday. McCoy and the Wolverines beat Monte Vista 25-10, 25-13, 25-10 to go a perfect 8-0 in the Intermountain League.
Bayfield’s Kirstie Hillyer, a 6-5 sophomore, posted 11 kills and provided a big block as the Wolverines beat Monte Vista 3-0 to finish their Intermountain League season 8-0, their fifth consecutive season without an IML loss.
Bayfield seniors Jen Phelps and Layne Bulwan blocked the Pirates on Thursday night, helping the Wolverines to a 3-0 victory in its home finale. Bayfield will play in the Palmer Ridge Invitational on Saturday in Monument.
Bayfield head coach Kelley Rifilato and the Wolverines completed their fifth consecutive Intermountain League season without a loss Thursday night. The Wolverines, ranked No. 3 in Class 3A, are 17-2 overall, 8-0 in the IML, and are on pace for a return trip to the postseason.
The Wolverines celebrated on the bench Thursday night, completing an undefeated conference season, their fifth in a row. They will be challenged by Class 5A Highlands Ranch and Class 4A Silver Creek on Saturday morning in the Palmer Ridge Tournament.
Layne Bulwan, with her head coach watching in the background, passed the volleyball during Thursday’s 3-0 victory over Monte Vista. Bulwan, a senior on senior night, finished with six kills for the Wolverines.
