Two Maloneys peak onto state’s podium

Running in her second state championships in as many years, Durango High School sophomore Shannon Maloney crossed the finish line in third place after 19 minutes, 25.5 seconds on the 3.1-mile course.
Joe Maloney strided across the Norris Penrose Event Center finish line in sixth place, covering the 5-kilometer state course Saturday in Colorado Springs in 17 minutes flat. His teammates followed for a ninth-place result. “Our team is awesome this year; I love my team,” Maloney said.
Led by Joe Maloney’s sixth-place effort at the CHSAA Class 4A Cross Country State Championships, the Durango High School boys finished ninth in the 30-team field. Led by Shannon Maloney’s third-place effort, the DHS girls finished 12th. “We had fun. We ran hard,” a smiling Durango head coach David McMillan said.
