Three people suffered minor injuries in a two-car collision at about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday near milepost 7 on Wildcat Canyon Road (County Road 141).
Colorado State Patrol Trooper Chris Gonzales said it appeared the driver of a 2000 green Toyota Camry was traveling east when it went off the right side of the road and then overcorrected.
The driver swerved into oncoming traffic and crashed head-on into a driver in a 1996 green Chevrolet S-10 pickup heading west.
The driver of the Camry had to be extricated.
The Camrys male driver and his female passenger were taken by ambulance to Mercy Regional Medical Center.
A friend took the male driver of the truck to Mercy.
Gonzales said he does not know if anyone was wearing a seat belt.
Both lanes of traffic were temporarily blocked while rescue workers helped the injured.
In addition to the State Patrol, the Fort Lewis Mesa Fire Protection District, Durango Fire & Rescue Authority and La Plata County Sheriffs Office responded.
Trooper Nate Reid could not release the identities of the victims pending notification of kin, but he said the driver of the Camry was from Durango, and the driver of the pickup was from Hesperus.
Reid said all three suffered minor injuries.
