Wolverines quickly strike for state

Bayfield senior Jordyn Harrison celebrated with a big smile Saturday after the Wolverines won the Class 3A Region 3 championship at Bayfield High School. Harrison thrilled the BHS crowd in the win over Jefferson Academy with a diving pancake dig to set up a Bayfield point.
Senior Jen Phelps hit around the Jefferson Academy blockers during Saturday’s regional championship at Bayfield High School. The four-year starter totaled 14 kills against Trinidad and 13 kills against Jefferson Academy.
Bayfield head coach Kelley Rifilato will lead the Wolverines (22-3) to the CHSAA Class 3A Girls Volleyball State Championships for the fifth consecutive season. They will open play Friday at the Denver Coliseum.
Jen Phelps and Lindsey Reinmuth teamed up to block Jefferson Academy on Saturday morning in straight sets – 25-10, 25-15, 25-18.
Senior Lindsey Reinmuth contributed digs and kills to the Bayfield Wolverines’ two victories Saturday along with a pair of ace serves in the win over Jefferson Academy.
Bayfield 6-5 sophomore Kirstie Hillyer showed her touch as a setter during an exchange against Jefferson Academy of Broomfield. Hillyer led the Wolverines with 16 kills against Trinidad and 15 against Jefferson Academy.
Sophomore setter Suzie Rhodes worked the volleyball to six different teammates for kills against the Jaguars of Jefferson Academy. Rhodes and the Wolverines will play in the state tournament at the Denver Coliseum starting Friday.
