BHS coach counts on his cabinet

Head coach’s incumbents make for an easy transition
“They are all great position coaches. They do a fantastic job,” first-year Bayfield High School Gary Heide said of his incumbent coaching staff. “I can’t say enough about them accepting the change in head coaches and the transition here.”
With a new head coach in tow, Matthew Eckstein – a 6-11, 320-pound lineman – and the Bayfield Wolverines haven’t missed a block behind head coach Gary Heide. Bayfield High School, the third-ranked team in Class 2A football, will host Faith Christian on Saturday in yet another playoff game at Wolverine Country Stadium.
Ian Sandrey and the Bayfield Wolverines again will look through the playoff prism at Wolverine Country Stadium. Despite transitioning to a new head coach, the third-ranked and defending Class 2A runner-up Bayfield High School football program has leaned on an incumbent coaching staff to reach the second round of the CHSAA Class 2A Boys Football State Championships.
First-year Bayfield High School football coach Gary Heide inherited a highly successful program from former head coach and BHS alumnus Marshall Hahn. His first order of business? Keep Hahn’s coaching staff. “What impressed me was their dedication to football, their knowledge of football,” said Heide, who put his hands on his knees and went to work on another playoff run.
Bayfield’s new football coach – and players such as Clay Crawford – has leaned on an incumbent coaching staff that includes the likes of Shawn Tucker, who have helped point the third-ranked Wolverines back into the Class 2A playoffs.
No. 3 Bayfield (10-0) vs. No. 6 Faith Christian (8-2)

Time: 1 p.m. Saturday, at Wolverine Country Stadium, KLJH 107.1 FM.

Last Week: Bayfield beat No. 14 Trinidad 21-12; Faith Christian beat No. 11 Bennett 17-10.
