Volunteer emergency responders make up bulk of local department’s firefighters

“I think they’re over the fire engine thing, sadly,” said Capt. Dave Tranum, who has been a volunteer firefighter with Durango Fire & Rescue Authority for longer than his kids have been alive. From left are Elliot, 4, and Grace, 6. Tranum said they still get a kick out of him bringing the fire engine to show and tell.
