Arts, crafts festival set for fairgrounds
The 38th annual Holiday Arts & Crafts Festival will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Dec. 7, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 8 and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 9 at the La Plata County Fairgrounds, 2500 Main Ave.
The event will feature handmade gifts, decor, jewelry, baby items, hats and scarves, bird baths, natural soy candles, pastries, fudge, jams, soaps, African art, metal art and more.

Salvation Army seeks bell-ringers
The La Plata County service extension unit of the Salvation Army is looking for volunteer bell-ringers from Tuesday to Nov. 25, and also for the month of December.
Two-hour daytime shifts need to be filled at a variety of locations in Durango, Ignacio and Bayfield. Money will benefit local human service programs.
People can volunteer individually or with a friend or family member by calling 247-4763.
Daybreak Rotary Club to meet Wednesday
Ken Beegles, a member of the Durango Daybreak Rotary Club and president-elect, will share information about safety awareness when working along highway right-of-ways at the clubs meeting at 7 a.m. Wednesday at the Durango Community Recreation Center, 2700 Main Ave.
The Daybreak Rotarians have adopted a stretch of highway that they clear of trash twice a year.

Bird walk to be held Wednesday in Durango
Durango Nature Studies will host a bird walk at 9 a.m. Wednesday at For the Birds, 1560 East Second Ave.
Participants will explore the habitat along the Animas River Trail around the Durango Fish Hatchery and Huck Finn Pond.
The walks last 90 minutes. Participants should bring binoculars. The event is free, but donations to the hosting group are welcome.

Durango announces holiday schedule
All city of Durango administrative offices will be closed Thursday and Friday in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. This is the schedule for other city programs:
City administrative offices will be closed including offices at City Hall, River City Hall, Durango Transit Center, Durango Community Recreation Center and Greenmount Cemetery.
The recreation center and Chapman Hill will be closed Thursday but will be open regular hours on Friday. The Mason Center will be closed from Monday to Nov. 25.
The Durango Public Library will be closed Thursday and Friday. All library branches will be closed the week of Nov. 19.
Durango Transit will not run Thursday. On Friday, two citywide buses (Route 6) will operate from 7 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. The evening bus will run only Monday through Wednesday. The trolley will operate normal hours. There will be one Opportunity Bus operating. The transit parking window will be closed Thursday and Friday.
There will be no trash or recycling service on Thursday. Thursdays residential and commercial trash and recycling will be picked up Friday. Residential curbside recycling for Thursday will be picked up Nov. 29. The Durango Recycle Center will be closed Thursday.
There will be free parking at the meters downtown Thursday through Nov. 25.
