Talent Search seeks applications
Music in the Mountains is accepting Talent Search applicants.
Talent Search is a Music in the Mountains Goes to School program that provides scholarships, based on financial need, for private music lessons to local young people who show potential beyond the average music student.
Recommendations to the program must come from a music teacher and be accompanied by a 500-word essay from the student addressing why they are interested in private music lessons. A short application with household income information also must be submitted by the parent/legal guardian.

Music in the Mountains has extended the deadline for submissions to the Talent Search to 5 p.m. Dec. 5.
Continuing education is available at FLC
Fort Lewis College Continuing Education offers online short courses in nearly any subject people would like to study, whether for job skills, certification/test preparation or for fun.
Online students consistently give an excellent rating for course content and quality of instruction. Many of the courses cost $99 and can be completed in six weeks.

Daniels Scholarships available to seniors
High school seniors in Colorado who demonstrate character, leadership and service are encouraged to apply for the Daniels Scholarship Program by the Nov. 29 deadline by visiting www.DanielsFund.org/Apply.
Applicants go through an application, interview and selection process. The reward of being selected is the opportunity to obtain a four-year college education at any nonprofit college or university in the United States, complete with financial and personal support.
To be eligible, students must be current high school seniors graduating during the 2012-13 academic year from a high school in Colorado, New Mexico, Utah or Wyoming.
They must be a current resident of one of those states, and at the time of application be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident of the United States. They also must demonstrate financial need and other requirements of the scholarship.
The scholarship covers all required tuition and fees, room and board, books and supplies and a variety of other miscellaneous expenses. Students also receive a laptop computer and a printer.

Durango school board to meet Tuesday
The Durango School District Board of Educations next regular meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the board room of the Administration Building, 201 E. 12th St.

Durango announces holiday closures
All of the districts schools will be closed for Thanksgiving through Friday.
Additionally, the school districts central office will be closed in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday from today through Friday.
