A very Durango Thanksgiving

Community will gather to prepare and share in 26th annual feast
Homemade pies are a regular feature at the event, and pumpkin s always is a favorite of the thousands of dinner-goers.
Much of the food served at the Community Thanksgiving each year is homemade such as these rolls and gravy.
Denise Simonsen, center, Mark Garrity, center right, and Halla Garrity, right, volunteered at the 2011 Community Thanksgiving Dinner at the La Plata County Fairgrounds. This year, the annual dinner will be held from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday.
Turkeys are roasted in home ovens by Mercy Regional Medical Center employees, then delivered to Community Thanksgiving volunteers who carve and serve more than two dozen birds to guests at the La Plata County Fairgrounds’ annual feast.
