Winter discovery walk for families Dec. 15
A winter discovery walk for families will take place from 10 a.m. to noon Dec. 15 at Boggy Draw, near Dolores.
The free program is designed for children ages 4 to 10 accompanied by an adult. Snowshoes are provided, if needed.
It is the second program in San Juan Mountains Associations Southwest Colorado Winter Ecology Series.

Climbing botanist to present program
The San Juan/Four Corners Native Plant Society will host The Climbing Botanist of Devils Tower at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Lyceum Room of Center of Southwest Studies at Fort Lewis College.
FLC graduate Heather Rietz will talk about her work and experiences as the first climbing biological science technician at Devils Tower National Monument in Wyoming.
Rietzs presentation will include discussion about local nonnative plants of concern and ideas about how outdoor enthusiasts can assess their actions to stop the spread of nonnative plants.

DMR to offer lesson packages for beginners
Purgatory at Durango Mountain Resort will offer packages during January for children and adults who want to learn how to ski and snowboard.
The packages include:
A two-day basic beginner package will include a full-day ski or snowboard lesson, basic rental equipment for two days and two days of lift tickets for $149.
A one-day basic beginner package will be include a full-day ski or snowboard beginner lesson, basic rental equipment for the day and a beginner lift ticket for $79.
Those who complete one of the programs will receive discounts on lessons, lift tickets and rentals through March.
These packages are valid from Jan. 7 to 31 as part of national Learn to Ski & Snowboard Month. Pre-registration is required.

Trails 2000 offering membership gift packs
Trails 2000 has a gift pack available through Dec. 27 featuring a one-year membership to Trails 2000 wrapped in a gift bag that includes the Trails 2000 cowboy hat, water bottle and local maps for $30.
Regular price for the nonprofits basic one-year membership alone is $25.
The gift packs are available at Marias Bookshop, 960 Main Ave., and Mountain Bike Specialists, 949 Main Ave. At Marias, the package will include a copy of Best Durango Hikes, and the gift bag will sell for $40.
Trails 2000 builds and maintains trails in the Durango area, educates trail users and encourages connectivity on road, path and trail.
