The Durango Demons lost their first game this season by a grand total of two points.
The Durango High School boys basketball team took its first loss Tuesday night, falling by two points, 58-56, to Farmington in Farmington, N.M.
After trailing by 13 with five minutes to play, Ty Elliott hit a game-tying 3-pointer with 4 seconds to go, then the Scorpions turned the ball over out of bounds on the ensuing play. On the scramble for the Demons inbound pass, Durango was called for a foul, and Farmington hit two double-bonus free throws for the win.
We climbed all the way back, DHS head coach Alan Batiste said.
Elliott scored 21 points for the Demons, Nick Hamlin added nine and Trent Andrews eight.
Batiste also nodded to Bryton Kinlechene and Nate Atencio as key to the comeback attempt.
We just dug ourselves too big of a hole and didnt play very well, Batiste said.
