Durango pitches in for bird count

Cold weather keeps some feathered friends under cover
“The longevity of the study is part of what makes it important,” said Susan Allerton, center, of the 113th year of the National Audubon Society Christmas Bird Count. Allerton said the Durango Bird Club has assisted in the count since 1959, covering the same 7.5-mile-radius, whose center is Pastorius Reservoir, every year. Assisting in the count are Coen Dexter, left, and Brenda Wright, both of Nucla.
Members of the Durango Bird Club spotted several bald eagles.
