Sunshine Gardens announces additions
Sunshine Gardens Senior Communitys Country Home, which specializes in assisted living for memory-impaired individuals, has been approved by the Alzheimers Association of Colorado as a Leader in Dementia Care.
Sunshine Gardens also is installing a new wander-guard system to provide better care for patients who have a tendency to wander stemming from the confusion caused by dementia.
Sunshine Gardens has its own registered nurse consultant, Margaret Ray, based in Denver.

Forest Service to host fire-support workshop
The U.S. Forest Service and Colorado Procurement Technical Assistance Center will hold a free workshop from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the San Juan Public Lands Center, 15 Burnett Court, for area small businesses interested in providing equipment, supplies and/or food services to support wildland firefighting efforts.
Small businesses currently doing business or wanting to do business with the Forest Service are invited. Topics covered will include updates on regulations, contracts, the ordering and payment process, and types of services needed to support crews.
Services and equipment needed to support firefighting include meals, copiers, heavy equipment, refrigerated trailers, ice, hardware, showers, toilets, hand-washing stations and lodging.

Health department names new manager
Gregory Brand has been appointed environmental health director for San Juan Basin Health Department.
Brand is an engineer with more than 30 years of experience in environmental health in the public and private sectors. He moved to Durango in 1996 to become the district water quality engineer for the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.
The Environmental Health Division is responsible for local food safety inspections and training; septic-system permits; investigating environmental complaints; inspecting public pools and spas; and other programs and services.
