City changes notification process for late bills

The city of Durango is changing its notification process for delinquent utility payments.

Beginning April 1, the Utilities Department will no longer place courtesy “red tags” at homes with overdue utility bills.

The city will continue to send delinquency notices 30 days past the due date of the bill.

If payment has not been received within 10 days of the delinquency notice, water service will be disconnected and additional fees will be applied to the account in accordance with city ordinance sections 25-35 and 25-36.
