The Bayfield High School boys basketball team finally has that winning feeling.
The Wolverines beat Shiprocks junior varsity team 62-50 in the Aztec Rumble in the Jungle Tournament in a game that featured every player and Bayfields first win of the season.
We came out and got a lead right off the bat and kept the lead throughout the game, Bayfield head coach Bill Hesford said.
Preston Hardy led a field that saw contributions from everyone with 24 points and nine rebounds. Hesford called Hardy the most versatile scorer on the Wolverines squad who made shots from all over the floor, just like he needs to. Hardy scored nine points in the first 3 minutes.
He came out hot and played really well all night long, Hesford said.
Joey Webb scored eight points to go with two assists,
Tyler Kerr scored eight points and pulled down eight rebounds, Geoff Pope scored seven, and John Fisher scored six points with five rebounds and two assists.
Contributions all up and down the bench, Hesford said. Played a lot of guys. It felt good to get a win.
It finally felt like our offense had a flow. Weve seen it for a quarter, weve seen it for a half a few times, but this is the first time we put it together for a full game.
Bayfield will play Shiprocks varsity in the consolation-bracket championship at 1 p.m. today.
