Tarpley drills a state record

Justis Francisco of Aztec played Nick Tarpley’s takedown partner Tuesday at Durango High School. Only this wasn’t practice; Tarpley scored 18 takedowns at 152 to set the state record in a single match.
Hunter Hall had the best grind-out victory of the night for Durango. He beat Aztec’s Jesse Ridgley 10-5, and his head coach shouted his praises. “We need more experience, and this is how we get it,” DHS head coach Doug Cuddie said.
Dillon Anthony nearly pinned Aztec’s Robert Escojeda before ending up pinned himself with 33 seconds remaining in the final period. Durango lost the dual meet 40-25 at DHS.
Demetre Cullison got a bit of revenge over Aztec’s Orien Israel. After losing by decision to Israel over the weekend, Cullison pinned him in 51 seconds Tuesday evening at DHS.
