No. 7 ’Cats leave the door open for No. 3 Pirates

Bo Ward and the Ignacio boys basketball team put some distance between themselves and Pagosa Springs with some hot first-half shooting Tuesday night. But Pagosa rallied in the second half to cruise to a 63-49 win.

From below the basket and beyond the arc, Ignacio’s Kelton Richmond scored nine points in the seventh-ranked (Class 2A) Bobcats’ 63-49 loss to No. 3 Pagosa Springs (Class 3A) on Tuesday night at Ignacio High School.

Clayton Jefferson eyed the basket plenty from beyond the 3-point arc Tuesday. He scored the first points of the game from 3-point range, then hit two more to help Ignacio to a 30-26 halftime lead.

At times, Adison Jones proved too much for Pagosa Springs to handle. He scored a team-high 15 points for the Bobcats, both from down low and downtown, in a loss between two state-ranked teams.
