MELBOURNE, Australia – John Isner and Sam Querrey will join Bob and Mike Bryan on the U.S. team to play Brazil in the first round of Davis Cup World Group matches Feb. 1-3.

U.S. captain Jim Courier announced the team in a statement Wednesday from Melbourne, where he is working at the Australian Open.

The match against Brazil, the first tie at home for the U.S. team since the 2011 quarterfinals, will be played on an indoor hard court in Jacksonville, Fla.

Isner pulled out of the Australian Open with a right knee injury, while Querrey lost in the third round.

According to the United States Tennis Association, Brazil has announced its team as singles players Thomaz Bellucci and Thiago Alves and doubles players Marcelo Melo and Bruno Soares for its first World Group tie since 2003.

The winner of the match will face either Serbia or Belgium in the quarterfinals April 5-7.

Spain

MADRID – Spain will open the Davis Cup against Canada without injured star Rafael Nadal or regular member David Ferrer.

No. 11-ranked Nicolas Almagro will lead Spain in the first-round match in Vancouver on Feb. 1-3.

Spain captain Alex Corretja also has called on doubles team Marcel Granollers and Marc Lopez, while 51st-ranked Albert Ramos will make his debut for the national team.

Nadal hasn’t played since June because of tendinitis in his left knee.

With Nadal out, Ferrer led the five-time champions to last year’s championship, where Spain lost to the Czech Republic.
