Fort Collins artists Elizabeth Morisette speaks to students and visitors during the opening reception for her exhibit “Tried and True” on Wednesday at the Fort Lewis College art gallery. Morisette creates playful objects that reimagine the ancient arts of weaving and basket making for the 21st century. Using recycled or repurposed materials, she links the machine made and the handmade, transforming consumer waste into unexpected forms. She stitches together ordinary zippers to make colorful vessels, assembles plastic hair rollers into wildly abstract wall hangings and uses twist-ties to fabricate delicate baskets. “Tried and True” is on display through Feb. 23. Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday (open until 6 p.m. Thursdays) and Saturdays by appointment. For an appointment or more information, call 247-7167.

Sorrel Sky Gallery will feature the work of popular local painter Sharon Abshagen, including “La Plata Canyon Snow Day.”
