Svindal dominates Planai at worlds to earn his 11th major medal
Aksel Lund Svindal seamlessly hit all of his jumps, and he went fast, too – much faster than any of his competition on the Planai downhill Saturday at the World Championships in Schladming, Austria. He skied to the gold medal to add to his super-G bronze, his 11th medal at major championships.
Cook fastest in Saturday’s downhill training

SCHLADMING, Austria – American Stacey Cook posted the fastest time in the final training session Saturday for the today’s women’s downhill at the World Championships.

She timed 1 minute, 50.87 seconds on the Streicher course to lead Marion Rolland of France by 1.83. Stefanie Moser of Austria was 2.34 behind in third.

Austria’s Regina Sterz, who led the first two training sessions, finished more than 3 seconds behind Cook.

Only 22 racers took part in the third session. Tina Maze of Slovenia, Maria Hoefl-Riesch of Germany, Lara Gut of Switzerland and Anna Fenninger of Austria were among the skiers who opted to rest.

Aksel Lund Svindal won the men’s downhill at the World Championships on Saturday.
