After scare, Aaland breathing easier To help medical bills from heart surgery, community run in his name

Shelly, Otto, and Chris Aaland have dealt with some family health problems recently. The latest started when Chris Aaland began waking up with a racing heart that he first attributed to stress. It turned out to be far more serious.

The fourth annual Community Cares 5K, this year called “Caring for Chris,” will be held Saturday morning at the Durango Community Recreation Center. Registration is from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. at the center’s Windom Room. Entry is free with a suggested donation of $10. All donations go to the Chris Aaland family. The first 200 entrants get a free T-shirt.

The one-mile event begins at 10 a.m., and the five-kilometer at 10:45 a.m. Participants can run, jog or walk.
